hello from a wren's nest farm

Now that we’re pretty comfortable with the chickens and goats we’ve decided to take on a much bigger farm project— Bacon. About a month ago we added five weaner pigs to our ever-growing farm menagerie. The girls weigh in at about 85 to 100 pounds each—almost twice what they weighed when we brought them home. We’re hoping they’ll be ready to harvest by April or May. We’ll keep one for ourselves, one for my brother and another to breed. We’re hoping to trade the other two for beef. If not we’ll offer them for sale as cuts at the farmers market or to friends.
This is our first experience with pigs. I was really intimidated at first, but they are very friendly and so far they’ve been easy to care for.
